It’s quite hard to define what makes a city “fashionable”, as different individuals and cultures all have their own distinct fashion senses and trends.
However, there are still certain cities that immediately come to mind when you think of fashion, whether it be due to their connections with the industry, excellent shopping options, or the fact that they’re always cropping up on the social media feeds of influencers.
We’ve analysed the numbers behind some of these factors to determine just which are the world’s most fashionable cities.

Methodology
We compiled a list of ‘fashionable’ cities based on articles from publications such as Insider, The Culture Trip and Highsnobiety, ranking them on the following factors, giving each city score out of ten for each factor, before taking an overall average across all six factors.
High fashion brands
The number of high fashion brands which have their headquarters based in each city (based on Wikipedia’s list of high fashion brands).
Fashion jobs
The number of job listings for the term ‘fashion’ on Indeed, per 100,000 people.
Fashion magazines
The number of fashion magazines which have their headquarters based in the city (based on Wikipedia’s list of fashion magazines).
Fashion schools
The number of fashion schools in each city listed on The Business of Fashion’s list of The Best Fashion Schools in the World 2019 (including “other notable programmes”).
"Shopping" activities on TripAdvisor
The number of activities on TripAdvisor tagged as “shopping”, per 100,000 people.
Instagram hashtags
The total number of hashtags on Instagram mentioning the city, using the city name followed by the term ‘streetstyle’.
